For people confused as to what happened:

Quote:
The U.S. military also launched what it said would be an aggressive investigation into how a British newspaper got pictures of an imprisoned
Saddam Hussein clad only in his underwear, saying the photos violated military guidelines and possibly the Geneva convention on the humane treatment of prisoners.
And more details:

Quote:
BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- The U.S. military has denied giving photos of Saddam Hussein in captivity to the popular British tabloid that published them -- contradicting the newspaper's version of events.

Senior military officials told CNN Friday it was not a sanctioned release, and they are investigating to determine whether an American individual or someone else with access to Saddam at that time.

Because it was not a sanctioned government release, the United States is not in violation of the Geneva Conventions, although an individual might be, the officials said.
Convenient its the individual in violations - hah.

Not only should he be in underwear, he should be tortured endlessly and then hung by his legs and fed to rabid antelope.

Disagreed.

This war was on the basis of moral superiority. If you cannot do that all the way through, even that falls apart.

Also disagreed, Sadam was torturing and killing his people. Creating mass holocaust-style graves filled with bodies of men, woman and children who were tortured in slaughter houses.

I do not think we should be the ones to do the deed, since our law protects criminals from torture and the likes, but I wouldn't mind seeing Sadam given back to the people he was murdering. Let them decide his faith like he decided for the many hundreds of thousands he murdered.

I would say being seen in his underwear is far from what he deserves.

Heh. Tell that to the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay.

See, we should have just shipped him there, and invented a new term for him so that we could say he didn't fall under the protection of our own laws and treaties regarding the treatment of prisoners. We can call him an "enemy dimweed". We haven't signed any treaties or passed any laws saying we have to respect the rights of "enemy dimweeds", have we? We can do whatever we want to him if we just classify him properly.

Doesn't matter Ramus. Just because someone else was a monster doesnt mean you treat them like a monster. What makes someone better is when having the upper hand, they still act with dignity and respectful manner. Thats how you win.

Showing someone in there underpants is not exactly treating them like a monster. As I said, we should not do the deed. We do not have the right to do it. We should let the people who's lives were destroyed by him make that decision. Let them decide if he is a person, or a monster.

How did we get into this discussion anyway?

Thumbs down Well

This forum is for "off-topic and absurd" so actually it is in the right forum.

That being said....people crying that this violates saddams civil rights, etc make me howl with laughter. This guy had a picture of himself in the newspaper in his tighty whities, BIG deal.

Read into Saddam and his history a bit from reputable sources. You will realise instead of posting photos of him in his underwear, they should have taken him into the public square in Baghdad and stoned him.

The man is no better then Hitler. He tried to exterminate people because of their beliefs and because they spoke out against him. EXACTLY what Hitler did. They are still finding mass graves with women and their infants buried with bullet holes in their heads because of his death squads.

Lets hang up the politically correct crap for one.

*puts on flame retardant suit*

Agreed. Men like Hussein deserve no dignity or mercy. As far as I'm concerned, whatever happens to him, he deserves it.

Humilation is a very old form of emotional and mental torture. Consider a megalomaniac leader reduced to bare undies. That is torture.

So instead of being better, you stoop down to his level?

And in regards to deaths and what evil dictators have done, we could go through that ad nauseum. About why Saddam is in power. About how many civilians are being killed in Iraq. About corporate disasters like the one in India where the evil people behind it are still free (and filthy rich).

The point is Saddam was evil. Treating him like crap makes you as good as crap also. Treat him by the conventions, get him convicted, and let him die.
